Tosyl-D-valine is a synthetic compound that is structurally related to paclitaxel. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by binding and stabilizing microtubules, which are essential for cell division. Tosyl-D-valine is also effective in treating drug resistant cancers. The synthesis of tosyl-D-valine involves reacting L-phenylalanine with mandelic acid followed by the alkylation with methyl iodide, which yields an intermediate that can be converted into tosyl-D-valine.
