Trans-4-(trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid (TFCCA) is a staphylococcal peptidomimetic that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. Trans-4-(trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid binds to the active site of amide synthase, inhibiting its function. TFCCA also has surface properties that allow it to be used as a biocide and pesticide. The molecular modeling suggests that TFCCA could be an inhibitor of bacterial cell wall synthesis, which suggests potential use for the prevention of biofilm formation on surfaces. This compound also has potentiation effects against antibiotics such as oxacillin, cephalothin, and gentamicin by enhancing their antibacterial activity.
