• Descrição: Trazodone is a drug that belongs to the class of antidepressants. It is a serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor. Trazodone has been shown to increase 5-HT (serotonin) concentrations in the brain, which may be due to its antagonism of 5-HT2 receptors. The effect of trazodone on human cyp3a4 was examined using a vivo model; it was found that trazodone does not inhibit this enzyme. There are many drug interactions with trazodone, including an increased risk of hypotension in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants, and an increased risk of arrhythmias in patients taking class Ia and III antiarrhythmic agents. Trazodone has been shown to be effective for treating depression and diabetic neuropathy. This drug also has the potential to cause cardiac effects, such as ventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation.
