1-Trimethylsilyl-1-hexyne is a terminal alkene that is used as an organometallic compound. It is a hydrocarbon that has a congestive effect on the heart and can cause infarction in the cardiac tissue. 1-Trimethylsilyl-1-hexyne also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins. 1-Trimethylsilyl-1-hexyne reacts with iron catalyst in the presence of boron trifluoride etherate and silicon and produces terminal alkenes such as 2,3,4,5-tetramethoxybenzene (TMB) or 2,4,6-trimethoxyphenol (TMP).
