Tri-tert-butylphosphine (TBP) is a phosphane that binds to the amines in fatty acids, which are used as an alternative fuel source for cancer cells. It also inhibits the growth of cervical cancer cells by binding to DNA and inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids. TBP has been shown to inhibit the catalytic activity of palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions with n-dimethyl formamide and amines. This compound also has an inhibitory effect on cancer cells, as demonstrated by nmr spectroscopic data and cancer cell lines. TBP is not active against halides or aromatic hydrocarbons, but it is able to react with aryl halides.
