The drug's pharmacokinetics are not well understood, but it is thought to be a substrate for CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenylacetic acid has been studied as a potential antiviral agent and systemic inflammatory response inhibitor.
