Tert-Butyl diethylphosphonoacetate is a chiral, secondary amide that is used as an enzyme inhibitor. It inhibits the enzyme beta-amino acid oxidase by binding to its active site, preventing it from catalyzing the conversion of β-amino acids into amino acids and ammonia. Tert-Butyl diethylphosphonoacetate has been shown to be more effective than L-tartaric acid in inhibiting this enzyme, with higher levels of enantiopurity and a greater yield of desired product. The tertiary amine group on the tert-butyl group makes this compound more stable and less susceptible to hydrolysis.
