Triphenylbismuth Diacetate (TPB) is a diphenyl ether with the chemical formula C14H10O4PS. It is a synthetic compound that has been used as an effective dose to treat patients with chronic constipation. TPB works by acting on the colon, which stimulates peristalsis and increases the water content of fecal matter. The effective dose for TPB ranges from 5-20mg/kg, and can be administered orally or rectally. TPB has been shown to be effective in treating symptoms of chronic constipation related to colonic inertia, faecal impaction, and slow transit constipation.
