3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyltrimethylammonium hydroxide - 5% in methanol is a regiospecific reagent for the synthesis of fatty acids. The reaction produces a mixture of C-10, C-12 and C-14 fatty acids. This reagent also reacts with isoxazoles, pyrazoles, and other heterocycles to form coatings with high thermal stability. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyltrimethylammonium hydroxide - 5% in methanol has been used in microscopy as an alternative to fluorescence or inorganic methods. It can be used to study the structure of polymers and the surface properties of minerals.
