Tetrahydrofuran-2,3,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid (THF-TTCA) is a polycarboxylic acid that can be extracted from coal tar. It has a number of uses as an extractant in the production of polycarbonates and other plastics. Tetrahydrofuran-2,3,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid has been shown to crystallize from solution at high temperatures and pressures. The crystal structure of THF-TTCA consists of a ring of six carboxylate groups with three molecules of water coordinating to form hydrogen bonds. Tetrahydrofuran-2,3,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid has the structural analog of the metal ion tetraammineborane (NHBH).
