Triethylene glycol monododecyl ether is a fatty acid that has been used as a chemical solvent. It can be found in clinical studies as an excipient for pharmaceutical formulations. Triethylene glycol monododecyl ether is used in vitro to study the transport rate of hydrophobic drugs across biological membranes and to measure the adsorption mechanism of drugs and other molecules on cationic surfactants. This compound has conformational properties that allow it to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules, which may explain its high water permeability. The viscosity of triethylene glycol monododecyl ether can be altered by changing the pH level.
