Trifluorobenzonitrile is an organic compound that belongs to the class of glycopeptide antibiotics. It is used in the synthesis of 2,4,5-trifluorobenzoyl chloride. Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and activated benzonitrile react with each other to form 2,4,5-trifluorobenzonitrile. The reaction can be carried out in diluents like tetrahydrofuran or dichloromethane. The solid-phase synthesis of 2,4,5-trifluorobenzonitrile can be achieved by using a linker such as 1-cyclohexyl-3-(2'-pyridyl)propylcarbodiimide hydrochloride and an acceptor such as 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as catalyst.
