2,2,2,4'-Tetrafluoroacetophenone is a fluorinated organic compound that has been used in the synthesis of amines and activated esters. It is also used as a reagent for the synthesis of trifluoroacetyl-protected amino acids. 2,2,2,4'-Tetrafluoroacetophenone is produced by the reaction of fluorine with acetophenone and is usually isolated as a white powder. This molecule has two polar groups (a proton and an oxygen) and two nonpolar groups (two methyl groups). The polarities of this molecule make it useful in nucleophilic substitution reactions.
