1-(4-Trifluoromethylphenyl)piperazine is a molecule that belongs to the class of amides. It has been used as an analytical tool for the identification and quantification of neurotransmitters in biological samples. 1-(4-Trifluoromethylphenyl)piperazine exhibits antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. The antibacterial activity of this compound is due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes or amide groups on proteins. 1-(4-Trifluoromethylphenyl)piperazine also inhibits the reuptake of monoamines, such as dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine, which are neurotransmitters responsible for regulating mood and behaviour.
