- 2-Thienylacetic acid
Thiophene-2-acetic acid is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of benzimidazole compounds. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme picolinic acid carboxylase, which is involved in the production of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP). Thiophene-2-acetic acid has also been found to inhibit other enzymes, such as aminopeptidases, which are involved in protein degradation. The fluorescence probe 2-[(2-carboxyethyl)-(5-methylthiophenyl)amino]-6-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)benzo[b]thiophene binds with high affinity to thiophene-2-acetic acid. It can be used for photoaffinity labeling studies with target enzymes, such as anhydrous sodium acetate
