4-(Trifluoromethoxy)thiophenol is a compound that has been shown to have antioxidant properties. It has been shown to scavenge free radicals and chelate metal ions, which can be toxic to cells. 4-(Trifluoromethoxy)thiophenol has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses in laboratory studies. This compound also has antimicrobial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The biological activity of 4-(trifluoromethoxy)thiophenol is due to its ability to cleave DNA strands by donating electrons and hydrogen atoms. 4-(Trifluoromethoxy)thiophenol also exhibits radical scavenging activity, which may be due to its ability to produce hydrogen peroxide from peroxides through a reaction with superoxide anions.
