Tetramethylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TTFA) is an organofluorine compound that has been used as a polymerization reagent in the production of polydimethylformamide. The molecular modeling of TTFA has shown that it is a proton acceptor and donor, which can be used to produce methacrylic acid. This compound also has reactivity with trifluoroacetic acid, forming hydrogen fluoride and tetrafluoroethylene. Tetramethylammonium tetrafluoroborate has been shown to react with activated dimethylformamide to form hydrogen fluoride, ammonia, and acetic acid. It also reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form HF-TMAF and TMAF-HF. In addition, TTFA has shown activity against herpes simplex virus and radiation when combined with monoclonal antibodies.
