Tetraethylammonium p-Toluenesulfonate is a fatty acid that is used as an adsorption agent in the purification of organic solvents. It is typically used to remove methyl ketones and amines from oils, fats, and petrochemical feedstocks. Tetraethylammonium p-Toluenesulfonate has been shown to react with amides and hydroxyl groups to form nitrogen-containing compounds. This compound can be isolated by distillation or crystallization. Tetraethylammonium p-Toluenesulfonate also inhibits enzymes that catalyze the breakdown of proteins into amino acids.
