This binding stimulates the release of dopamine and prevents it from being reabsorbed into the neurons, which in turn increases levels of extracellular dopamine in the synapse. (6S)-5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-6-[propyl[2-(2-thienyl)ethyl]amino]-1-naphthalenol has been shown to have antidepressant effects in animal models of depression. It also has a long half life and can be administered as a transdermal patch for prolonged relief from depression symptoms.
