2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl butyrate (TFEB) is a potent inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase. TFEB inhibits the hydrolysis of triglycerides by binding to the active site of the enzyme. The kinetic data and control experiments indicated that TFEB has an affinity for the penicillin-binding protein and monoamine neurotransmitters. The compound also inhibits the synthesis of phospholipids and glycerophospholipids in brain cells. TFEB is typically synthesized using an asymmetric synthesis with a hydroxyl group on one side, which leads to an acidic pH, which may inhibit other enzymes.
