2-(Trifluoromethyl)cyclohexanone (TFMCC) is an anti-viral agent that has been shown to be active against the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 in a number of animal studies. TFMCC inhibits the proteolytic activity of the NS3 protease, which is involved in the replication of the virus. This drug also inhibits melanocortin production and may be used for treatment of skin reactions caused by sunlight or autoimmune diseases such as chronic kidney disease, hepatitis, and diabetic neuropathy. TFMCC can also inhibit soluble guanylate cyclase, bronchial muscle contractions, and bladder contractions.
