5-(3-Trifluoromethyl-Phenyl)-Furan-2-Carbaldehyde is an antioxidant that inhibits the formation of reactive oxygen species. It is synthesized by condensing acetophenone with methylene in the presence of an azide and a propenoic acid. This compound has been shown to have antioxidant activity, as seen in its ability to inhibit the oxidation of malononitrile. 5-(3-Trifluoromethyl-Phenyl)-Furan-2-Carbaldehyde is used as a light stabilizer in plastics and rubbers, and has also been used for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, including acetaminophen.
