Urazole is a benzimidazole compound with a protonated nitrogen atom. It is an organic chemical that belongs to the class of fatty acid derivatives. Urazole has been shown to have high resistance against various nitro groups, including nitrobenzene and nitropyridine. Urazole reacts with trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of a catalytic amount of hydrochloric acid to form the corresponding amide or ester. The reaction can be conducted at room temperature in dichloromethane or chloroform. Urazole also has biological properties, such as inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi by interfering with protein synthesis.
