Vinylbenzyl trimethylammonium chloride (VBTAC) is a synthetic polymer that can be prepared by copolymerization and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization. The particle size of VBTAC is in the range of 1-100 nm. The extractability of VBTAC from soil, sludge, and fly ash was studied using dispersive solid-phase extraction with mass spectrometric detection. The results showed that VBTAC has high chemical stability and low extractability in the presence of cationic surfactants such as polyethyleneimine and anionic surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate.
