Descrição:Vincristine is a cytotoxic drug that inhibits the growth of tumor cells by interfering with DNA synthesis. It is used to treat various types of cancer, including lymphomas and leukemias. Vincristine has been shown to be effective in treating some infectious diseases, such as malaria and toxoplasmosis. It works by inhibiting the production of methyltransferase, an enzyme that is required for the synthesis of methionine. The long-term toxicity of vincristine has been studied extensively in mice, where it was found to cause congestive heart failure, but not lung tumors. Vincristine also appears to work synergistically with adriamycin in the treatment of squamous carcinoma.
