11-Chloro-2,3,3a,12b-tetrahydro-2-methyl-1H-dibenz[2,3:6,7]oxepino[4,5-c]pyrrol-1-one (Asenapine maleate) is a pharmaceutical preparation that contains the active ingredient Asenapine. It is used to treat mental disorders and psychotic symptoms such as delusions or hallucinations. Asenapine was developed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and has been marketed since 1999. It is administered orally as a tablet or liquid and can be taken with or without food. Asenapine's main mechanism of action is through its antagonistic effect on dopamine receptors in the brain which leads to a decrease in dopaminergic activity.
