Descrição:
Zoxamide is a chemical pesticide that belongs to the group of fatty acid pesticides. It inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids in rat liver microsomes by acting as a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme desaturase. The matrix effect caused by zoxamide has been shown to reduce the resistance of some bacteria to other chemical agents, such as antibiotics. Zoxamide has been shown to be toxic to animals, with a LD50 value ranging from 1.1-2.2 mg/kg body weight in mice and rats and an LC50 value of 1.9 ppm in guinea pigs after 4 hours exposure time. This toxicity may have been due to its synergic effect with cationic surfactants, which are also used as pesticides.
