It is soluble in water and is a strong base. 4HNS has been shown to have antifungal properties and can be used as a preservative in cosmetic products. In addition, 4HNS can inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the cell wall of microorganisms and interfering with their metabolism, leading to cell death.
