- Pyrimidine, 4-Methoxy-
4-Methoxypyrimidine is a heterocyclic organic compound that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of several other compounds. It can be synthesized from chloro compounds, such as chloroformate and methylthio compounds, or from methoxy compounds. 4-Methoxypyrimidine can be obtained by hydrogenolysis of ammonium salts of 4-chloropyrimidine or trimethylpyrimidine. This compound is also prepared by the reaction of an azide with a fluoride in benzene and sodium hydroxide solution. The sodium salt of 4-methoxypyrimidine can be obtained by treating pyridinium chloride with methoxide and sodium hydroxide solution. 4-Methoxypyrimidine reacts with benzoic acid to form 3,4-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives. It also reacts with nitrous acid to form 2-aminoimidazoles.
