1-Isopropylnaphthalene is an organic compound that is a mixture of 1-isopropylnaphthalene and 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene. It is used as a catalyst in the acylation reaction and is also used as a light emitting material. This organic acid can be synthesized by reacting pyridine with fatty acid in the presence of an acidic solid catalyst. 1-Isopropylnaphthalene can be used to manufacture detergent compositions due to its hydroxyl group. The transport properties are influenced by its air entrainment property and its solubility in water, which has been shown to improve with the addition of sodium carbonate.
