5-Methoxynaphthalen-1-amine is a ligand for the P-gp efflux pump. It has been shown to have high affinity for this protein, with a Kd of 0.4 nM. This drug also has an optical rotation of [α]D=−5.5° and can be used as a diagnostic ligand in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies. 5-Methoxynaphthalen-1-amine can be used to identify binding sites for the P-gp efflux pump, which is often expressed at low levels on tumor cells and is important in promoting resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs.
5-Methoxynaphthalen-1-amine is also a chiral compound that can bind to the receptor subtype P2X7, potentially providing new insights into how these receptors contribute to inflammation and pain pathways.
