- 2H-indol-2-one, 1,3-dihydro-5,6-dimethoxy-
- 5,6-Dimethoxyindolin-2-One
5,6-Dimethoxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-2-one is a hydrochloride salt of 5,6-dimethoxyindole. It has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of oxindole and indole compounds. The first step in the condensation reaction involves the formation of an acid chloride by reacting the indole with thionyl chloride to produce 5,6-dimethoxybenzoyl chloride. The second step is a nucleophilic attack on the acid chloride by a secondary amine to produce a heterocyclic compound containing a nitrogen atom. The final step is hydrogenation of the heterocycle to produce the desired product. This process can be carried out in two different ways: 1) hydrogenation over palladium on charcoal catalyst and 2) hydrogenation over Raney nickel catalyst.
