Dioctadecyl ether (DOD) is a surfactant that is used in the treatment of infectious diseases, such as skin infections, respiratory tract infections and eye infections. DOD has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. The chemical structure of DOD is similar to glycols, which are compounds that are typically found in wastewater. DOD can be produced from glycols by hydrogenation with hydrogen fluoride (HF).
