2-Bromo-benzenethiol is a bifunctional reagent that can be used to synthesize amines by the amination of aldehydes and ketones. This reaction is selective for primary and secondary alcohols, with tertiary alcohols being unreactive. The substrate molecule is typically an amine or hydrazine.
