It is soluble in organic solvents such as pyridine, toluene, and chlorinated solvents such as dichloromethane. This compound is used in the synthesis of polyphosphoric acid, which has applications in the production of fertilizers and plastics. 2-(3-Methylphenyl)benzimidazole also reacts with carbonyl groups to form amides.
