2-Nitrobenzaldoxime is a synthetic β-glucosidase inhibitor that inhibits the hydrolysis of plant glycosides, such as glucosinolates. It has been shown to inhibit β-glucosidase in tissue cultures and exhibits a high degree of selectivity for this enzyme. 2-Nitrobenzaldoxime has been used as a pharmacological agent in animal studies, but its effects on plants have not been studied extensively. Animal studies show that 2-Nitrobenzaldoxime blocks nitric oxide (NO) production in a variety of tissues, including the brain and vascular system. The mechanism by which 2-Nitrobenzaldoxime inhibits NO production is not well understood, but it may involve inhibition of nitrous oxide reductase or nitric oxide synthase enzymes.
