5,6-Dihydroxyflavone is a flavonoid that has been shown to have antiviral properties. It inhibits the activity of RNA transcriptase and DNA polymerase, which are enzymes involved in the synthesis of viral nucleic acids. 5,6-Dihydroxyflavone also prevents the replication of virus particles. This compound has been shown to be effective against murine leukemia virus and other viruses that infect mice. 5,6-Dihydroxyflavone can be extracted from plants such as Baicalensis (a type of Chinese medicinal herb) or made synthetically in a laboratory.
