(3,4-Dichlorophenyl)acetyl chloride is an enantiomer of the drug κ-opioid receptor agonist 3,4-dichloro-N-(1-piperazinyl)-benzenesulfonamide. This compound binds to opioid receptors and has been shown to induce a variety of effects in cancer cells. It also inhibits uptake of amines into these cells, leading to increased concentrations of the amine in the extracellular fluid. (3,4-Dichlorophenyl)acetyl chloride is used as a reagent for the analytical determination of amines and their derivatives. It is also used in asymmetric synthesis reactions that involve nucleophilic substitution with piperazine as an electrophile.
