- 1H-Pyrazole, 5-methyl-1-phenyl-
5-Methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole is a heterocyclic compound. It has been shown to have antileukemic activity in mice, although it is not reactive with lymphocytes and does not react with DNA. The mechanism of action of 5-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole is unclear, but may be due to its nitration by the liver enzyme, nitric oxide synthase (NOS). Nitration leads to the production of reactive oxygen species that are cytotoxic to cells. Other possible mechanisms for the antileukemic activity include the inhibition of DNA synthesis and protein synthesis.
