Demanyl phosphate is a phospholipid analog which is used to study the properties and functions of membrane-bound phospholipids. It also has been shown to be effective for the treatment of occlusive ileitis, a type of inflammatory bowel disease. Demanyl phosphate has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome and preventing polypeptide chain elongation. In addition, it has been shown that demanyl phosphate inhibits lipid synthesis in liver cells. Demanyl phosphate is metabolized in vivo and excreted as an ethanolamine derivative with a molecular weight of 330 Da.
