The molecule is thermally developable; it can be developed after exposure to heat or light. 1-Phenyl-1,2,4-triazolidine-3,5-dione has been shown to react with silver ions and metal surfaces such as aluminum and titanium oxide. This compound may also be useful for coatings that are reactive to light or heat because it will form a film when exposed to either one.
