1-[(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1H-indole (1-MPPSI) is a pyrrole that can be synthesized by the reaction of tosylanilides and o-chloranil. It is an example of a carbazole, which are aromatic heterocycles with two nitrogen atoms in the ring. This compound has been reported to have a number of mechanistic and functional groups, including cyclic structures, reactive groups, and solid-phase synthesis. The synthesis of 1-MPPSI can be achieved through a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction between benzene and ethylene glycol followed by reaction with methyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate.
