6-Methyl-2,2'-bipyridine is a synthetic compound that is used as a ligand in the copper-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction. 6-Methyl-2,2'-bipyridine was first reported in 1885 by German chemist Hans von Pechmann. It has also been used as a solvent and an intermediate for organic synthesis. The compound is soluble in acetonitrile and can be evaporated to give a white solid. 6-Methyl-2,2'-bipyridine is a nonpolar molecule with two hydrogen bonds and one unidentate ligand, which allows it to bind to metal ions such as copper or palladium. This synthetic compound has been studied using vibrational spectroscopy and simulations, which have revealed its chemical structure. 6-Methyl-2,2'-bipyridine has also been shown to form monomers with pyridine rings that are unidentate
