It can also be used as a topical antifungal agent for fungal infections such as athlete's foot or ringworm. 7,10-Dihydroxy-8(E)-octadecenoic acid exhibits antiviral activity against the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1).
