(3β,7α)-7-Methoxystigmast-5-en-3-ol is a phytosterol with a nuclear resonance signal at δ = 7.00 ppm. It is a component of the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of β-sitosterol and can be used to distinguish between this sterol and stigmasterol. This compound has been shown to have biological activity in experiments that measure the inhibition of cholesterol synthesis and its ability to lower serum LDL levels in mice. It also has two-dimensional nmr properties that are similar to those of other sterols found in plants.
