L-5-Hydroxytryptophan (L-5HTP) is a naturally occurring amino acid that is useful for a wide range of chemical syntheses. L-5HTP is used as a substrate in the synthesis of serotonin, which is an important neurotransmitter. It is also used as a building block in the synthesis of other complex compounds and pharmaceuticals such as oxytocin, melatonin, and lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). L-5HTP has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
