4-Bromo-N-phenylbenzenesulfonamide is a substrate for dehydrogenase and cyclopentyl dehydrogenase. It can be converted to 4-bromophenylsulfonyl chloride by the addition of thionyl chloride, which is useful in organic synthesis. This compound has been shown to have anti-cancer activity against glioma. The mechanism of action for this drug is not known, but it may be related to its ability to inhibit the production of chloride ions. 4-Bromo-N-phenylbenzenesulfonamide also inhibits the growth of cancer cells by interfering with the metabolism of glucose and amino acids, leading to an accumulation of mutant cells that are unable to produce energy from nutrients.
