Sodium pyrophosphate dibasic is a white crystalline solid that has an anhydrous form. It is used as a buffering agent and is also a substrate for film forming polymers. This product has been shown to have the ability to inhibit cell lysis in vitro, which may be due to its hydrophobic properties. The surface methodology used for this product included the use of a hydrophobic surface with water vapor, which helped to prevent the adsorption of proteins onto the surface of the product. Sodium pyrophosphate dibasic has been shown to be an effective buffer at optimum concentrations, with no harmful effects on fetal bovine or neuronal cells.
