Ethyl 2-{1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-6-yl}acetate is an organic compound that can be synthesized by the allylation of the corresponding acid chloride and cyclic ester with ethyl bromoacetate. It is a surrogate for halides in biological studies and has been used as a building block for statins. This compound was also used to synthesize azaphilones through an asymmetric synthesis approach. Ethyl 2-{1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-6-yl}acetate is able to form amines by reacting with ammonia or ammonium hydroxide, which makes it useful in the synthesis of drugs such as antihistamines and antihypertensives.
