N-Ethyl-N-(4-picolyl)atropamide is a substance that has been used as a drug for the treatment of eye conditions. It has been shown to be effective in inducing mydriasis and cycloplegia, and is used as an ophthalmic drug. N-Ethyl-N-(4-picolyl)atropamide is also known as tropicamide. The substance was synthesized by reacting 4-piperidone with ethyl chloroformate followed by reduction of the amide group. The reaction product was purified by column chromatography, vacuum distillation, and crystallization. N-Ethyl-N-(4-picolyl)atropamide can be analyzed using nmr spectroscopy, ft ir spectroscopy, and hplc/dads methods.
